1967 VW 21 Window Bus

This is a rare and very cool, original California 1967 VW Transporter Deluxe Samba 21 Window Bus.  The car was originally purchased in Lompac, California in November 1967 by a Boeing engineer, whom drove and cared for the car like an engineer would up until he passed in 1980, which is when his son inherited the car. The son drove the car for several years and rebuilt the motor 2/3 of the way until it died at 100,116 miles and then it went into a shed.

The bus was then purchased in 1991 and was restored. The motor was replaced with a 1800cc blueprinted and balanced dual port with a double barrel Weber and tuned free-flow exhaust.  This was connected to a beefy transaxle with taller 3rd and 4th gears. KYB gas shocks, front and rear sway bars and a complete brake rebuild finished the mechanical work.

The current owner is a US Marine and used the car as a daily driver on the coast of California for the last 20 years.  The Transporter Bus even comes with a tiny bit of California sand. The brakes have been upgraded to disc and wheel spacers have been installed to clear the rotors. The current tires should be replaced with a slightly lower profile tire to completely clear the fender well which does currently rub.

Overall, this is a super cool VW.  Drive it like it is or do a fresh restoration and you’ll have a $150,000 bus and it wouldn’t take much. The service records for the bus go all the way back to the beginning and technically this is a 3 owner bus.
