Miles Through Time Automotive Museum is Growing!
It’s exciting to announce MTT is getting bigger!
When Miles Through Time Founder, Sean Mathis started the museum in 2017, he only had one car. The car museum began to take shape over the next three years until it was moved to its current location in Clarkesville.
After two years in Clarkesville, the museum needed to grow, and by 2022, Miles Through Time Automotive Museum to a major step forward with its first expansion and creation of Vintage Garage Antiques to help support the museum.
By February 2023, Miles Through Time Automotive Museum averages over 60 full-size vehicles on display, plus vintage bicycles, pedal cars, motorcycles, and over 5,000 model cars.
Now the time has come to take Miles Through Time Automotive Museum to the next level with another expansion.
The newest gallery is set to open by the end of April with an additional 15,000+ sqft. The new gallery will be capable of displaying over 50 vehicles.
It’s not actually about the gallery that is the big news with this latest addition. It is what else is added to the museum because of this expansion.
In addition to the gallery space, the museum will also add a full separate library space, with a reading lounge and a conference area. There will also be a family restroom available within the museum so visitors do not have to exit the museum to use the bathrooms available in Vintage Garage Antiques.
The new gallery also has loading dock access where a lift will be installed to be able to move vehicles in and out of the museum directly via an elevator. (four-post lift) There will also be a separate workspace to be able to do maintenance on vehicles off the museum floor.
For years the museum has had to deny people wanting to rent the museum for special events. MTT has not had the resources or space to accommodate special events inside the museum since the museum floor has always been full of vehicles. The new gallery, however, will be capable of hosting large groups.
In order to make this newest expansion possible, Vintage Garage Antiques will also be expanding. The new museum exit will take you down an entirely new section filled with antique vendors that will then connect back into the existing space. The antique shop will double in size and will have over 100 booths to find treasures in.
There is still no wealthy benefactor behind Miles Through Time Automotive Museum so all of the work and items needed for this expansion are being completed by funds raised from admission and donations.
Here’s a list of items needed for the new expansion:
– Dock ramp
– 1 or 2 vehicle lifts for the workshop to perform vehicle maintenance and workshops
– Bookshelves for the library
– Couch and chairs for the library and lounge
– Conference table (large enough for at least 10 and 10 chairs)
– Paint
– New lights
– Cameras
– Neon signs
One section of the wall will need to come down to connect the new gallery to the existing museum. One opening will need to be widened to accommodate vehicles entering the museum via the loading dock. We have already installed the new museum exit door repurposing a 70-year-old door original to the building.
Once this expansion is complete, Miles Through Time Automotive Museum will be about 50,000 square feet and will be able to display over 100 vehicles, and will be one of the neatest event spaces in northeast Georgia.
