These 10 Georgia cities share names with cities that can be visited in Europe. However, visiting all of these cities in Europe would cost a fortune and take a couple of weeks.  Don’t worry, Georgia in the USA has you covered. Not to be confused with the country of Georgia which is located in Eastern Europe.

Rome, GA

We’ll start in Rome, Georgia. The most famous Rome is in Italy, but you’ll also find a Rome in Belgium, Portugal, and the Netherlands. Rome is a popular city name, 18 states have their own little Rome.

Rome, GA is the largest city in and the county seat of Floyd County in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains.

Cleveland, GA

From Rome, GA we can head east to Cleveland, GA which is 102 miles away. In the UK, Cleveland is a land of hills and dales from the River Tees to the Vale of Pickering, England. The name Cleveland means “cliff-land.”

Cleveland, GA is home to wineries, a wildlife park, and Babyland General Hospital.

Helen, GA

A short 14-minute drive from Cleveland will get you to Helen, GA, which is a Bavarian-themed tourist town. It isn’t surprising that Helen does look like a little German town since Helen (Hehlen) is a German city.

Fun fact about Helen, GA: despite a population of less than 600 people, Helen is the 3rd most visited city in Georgia and only 20 minutes from one of the most unique automotive/history museums in the country, Miles Through Time Automotive Museum which is located inside of Vintage Garage Antiques.

Clayton, GA

Assuming you’ll visit Miles Through Time on your European tour it’ll get you that much closer to your next stop, Clayton, GA.

Clayton or Clayton Village is a civil parish in the Bradford Metropolitan in West Yorkshire, England. Clayton is listed in the Doomsday Book which means it dates back to at least the 11th century.

Clayton, GA is a thriving mountain town with a population of about 2,000 in the Blue Ridge Mountains and about 45 minutes from Miles Through Time Automotive Museum in Clarkesville, GA.

Bethlehem, GA

From Clayton, GA, you’re going to head south to Bethlehem, GA. The most famous Bethlehem would be the one found in Palestine, but there is also one in Sweden and the Netherlands. Plus 18 US states have their own Bethlehems.

Athens, GA

If you then head east for 95 miles you’ll end up in Athens, GA which is best known for the University of Georgia. However, most people in the world think of Athens, Greece which was one of the most powerful city-states in ancient Greece.

Augusta, GA

The next stop is Augusta, GA, not to be confused with Augusta in Italy which can be found on the eastern coast of Sicily. Augusta, GA is Georgia’s 3rd largest city and runs along the Savannah River.

Manchester, GA

If you head back west you’ll be able to visit Manchester, GA which is a small town that was designated a “Better Hometown” in 1997 due to its period look of the thirties. Manchester is a very popular American city name with 30 different states all having their own, but the original is a major city in England with over half a million residents.

Arabi, GA

Arabi, GA is a small town with a population of less than 500 residents. Arabí, Spain isn’t much different, it’s a small area that is 176 miles (as the crow flies) away from Spain’s capital Madrid.

Cairo, GA

The last European city to visit in Georgia is Cairo, GA  which is located on the Florida-Georgia line with its own museums and theater. The most famous Cairo would be the one in Egypt, but that is in Africa so in this case to finish our European tour, Cairo, Italy is the one we are referring to. Cairo Montenotte is a comune in the Province of Savona in Liguria.

You could visit these 10 European cities in Georgia on a weekend if you wanted or split it up and take the time to visit each one of their own.  Chances are you’ve been to at least one of them already.
