1980 Suzuki GS550e
Denver Minthorne purchased this 1980 Suzuki GS550E brand new as what he jokingly called his “midlife crisis.” It was his first motorcycle, and although he rode it less than 1,500 miles, it clearly meant enough to him that he held onto it for 46 years before choosing to donate it to Miles Through Time Automotive Museum. That makes this bike more than a low-mileage survivor. It is a personal time capsule from a decision Denver made, enjoyed briefly, and never quite let go.
What makes this Suzuki especially meaningful is its originality. Many motorcycles from this era were ridden hard, modified, repainted, or simply used up, but Denver’s GS550E remains completely original and unrestored. Its low mileage and long-term ownership help tell the story of a first motorcycle that became part of one man’s life for nearly half a century. Donated by Denver Minthorne, this Suzuki now continues its story as part of the museum, where visitors can appreciate not only the bike itself, but the personal connection that kept it preserved for so many years.
