Miles Through Time Exhibits

Built on a 125-inch wheelbase chrome moly chassis, the dragster features an NHRA-certified funny car-style cage, 4-link suspension, 4.88 rear gear, Strange Engineering axles, Weld wheels, a Stroud 5-point camlock safety harness, and 4-wheel disc brakes with Hurst Line/Loc roll control. Power comes from a 468 cubic-inch cast iron big-block Chevy producing 760 horsepower, topped with a Holley 1050 Dominator carburetor, Edelbrock Victor intake, aluminum heads, Crane roller rockers, PSI valve springs, Comp Cams pushrods, Crane cam and lifters, Wiseco pistons, and K1 connecting rods. The car also carries a special connection to NHRA Pro Stock legends Warren and Kurt Johnson, whose engraved autographs appear on the stud girdles. Warren Johnson internally balanced the crankshaft, and the engine is backed by a 2-speed competition Powerglide transmission with a transbrake, fired by an MSD Ignition 6AL box with a Two Step module.

In 2001, Greg began working for “The Professor,” Warren Johnson, during the same year Warren won his sixth NHRA Pro Stock Championship. When Greg brought the dragster to Warren’s shop, Warren jokingly nicknamed it “The Flintstonemobile” because its technology seemed stone age compared to his Pro Stock cars. After hours, Warren, Kurt Johnson, and several crew members helped Greg rebuild the motor, which later produced 760 horsepower on the dyno. In 2015, the entire car was updated and race-prepped for a nostalgia event at Atlanta Dragway, where it ran a career-best 8.534 seconds at 151.39 mph in the quarter mile. Donated by Greg and Kathy Pitts, this dragster represents years of learning, racing, friendship, and Kathy’s support of Greg’s lifelong dream to go racing.
