About the 1989 Lancia Delta Integrale

This amazing Italian rally car is a Homologation which means it is an approved race car, even though this particular car was never raced. Lancia had to build a specific number of race cars spec’d to race in Group A and this is one of those cars.

The 2.0-liter 16-valve turbocharged engine developed 200 hp, and is mated to a 5 speed manual transmission. This car could reach 60 mph in 5.8 seconds and has a top speed of 134 mph. During its peak, the Delta was the undisputed champion in WRC’s Group A (winning the Constructors’ Championship title in six consecutive years between 1987 and 1992).

The secret to the Delta’s sporting performance is its permanent four wheel drive system.

It uses a Ferguson layout, having three differentials. At The rear is Torsen, or torque sensing, differential which mechanically splits the power in a linear fashion. The Torsen differential delivers instantaneous lock upon high loads and not during braking like viscous couplers. Such a differential is very expensive, any seldom seen on any 4WD production cars.

At the center of the 4WD system is a viscous coupling differential which divides the torque to the front or rear wheels. Under normal conditions, 53 percent of the power is sent to the rear wheels.
