About the1990 Mazda Miata

This is the second year of the very successful Mazda Miata. The car only has a 1.6 liter twin cam with 116 hp and a 0-60 time of 8.86 seconds but that does not mean this car isn’t fun. In fact if you’ve ever driven a Miata you know exactly how fun this tiny nimble car can be.

The first generation MX-5 was introduced in 1989 and was in production until 1997. Upon its release, the car won numerous accolades such as Automobile Magazine’s 1990 Automobile of the Year and Car and Driver’s 10Best list from 1990 to 1992. The design of the MX-5 took inspiration from the Lotus Elan, and details such as the pop-up headlights – a feature unique to the Miata – and the slim chrome door handles all recalled the famed British roadster.

In an effort to keep the weight down, base model cars went without power steering and power brakes. A five-speed manual transmission was standard, though a four-speed automatic was available.

This particular car is special because the current owner’s father purchased the car as a surprise gift for her mother in 1990. Alexandra inherited the car after the passing of both of her parents. Luckily, the car is still enjoyed on the road
and will remain in the family, but for now, it is on display for you to enjoy.
