About the 1968 Shelby GT350

This 1968 Shelby GT350 was originally owned by Jim Matthews and has been in the family since Jim’s passing in 2021. 68 was the first year Ford replaced the 289 ci with a 302 V8 that pumps out 250 hp. Only 1,253 fastbacks were produced in 1968 and 404 convertibles for a total of only 1,657 GT350’s produced for 1968 and you’re looking at one of them. 1968 was also that last true Carroll Shelby designed Mustang. Although the Shelby name continues to live on today, Carroll Shelby had little to no input in the program.

The big visual difference between the 67 model and the 68 is the 68 has twin hood vents in the fiberglass hood. The front grill is also larger with dual 7” headlights. The rear air scoops are functional and are designed to direct airflow to the brakes.

This GT350 was a Japanese import that was produced in the states but sent to Japan and received a Marubeni Japanese vin number. The car then returned to the states without and motor and was restored and raced by Jim Matthews. Jim’s wife Mona Matthews and his two son’s Sean and Evan are now faithful stewards of this heirloom.
